Mechanical Characteristics and Durability of HMA Made of Recycled Aggregates

The application of recycled aggregates in the asphalt industry has been investigated recent decades. However, low percentages these materials have practically used mixtures because limitations set by relevant specifications due to their performance uncertainties. This research investigates feasibility increasing percentage 100% hot mix (HMA). Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), glass (RG), and reclaimed pavement (RAP) were develop HMAs suitable for roads with light medium traffic. First, potential designs proposed using an innovative approach considering industry’s needs. Next, volumetric properties, tensile strength, moisture sensitivity resilient modulus response under different temperature conditions determined compared. In general, material HMA exhibited superior mechanical performances, i.e., 45 145% increase stiffness, up 99% higher Marshall stability. Furthermore, strength ratios indicated a greater resistance water damage, hence durability. findings this provide evidence-based insights into increased proportion construction pavements, thereby promoting sustainable materials.
